U-boot Inclinometer Used onboard to measure the angle of pitch of the boat. More than likely replaced by more modern equipment later in the War. If anyone knows the whereabouts of one of these instruments, please give me a shout. Unfortunately due to being messed around by a particular dealer, I recently missed out on one of these instruments. I'm not bitter! Larger Image |

Bygrave AML Position Line Ruler This is not a Kriegsmarine instrument, in fact it's not even German! This Cylindrical Rule was produced by the Air Ministry in 1920 and used by the RAF up to and during the War. The MHR-1 in my collection page was copied from this design and they are virtually identical. Please contact me if you know of the whereabouts of one of these instruments. U-bootglas 7 x 50 blc (Carl Zeiss Jena) This particular binocular was only issued to the U-boat Arm. They are fixed focus and extremely high quality. At least ten of these were carried on each boat. They were manufactured in at least three different finishes, two in pale green (in rough and smooth finish) and black. They have rubber protection on both ends and lift up eye pieces. Some models also have a bakelite Benutzer cap that protected both eye lenses. |

U-bootglas 8 x 60 blc (Carl Zeiss Jena) Commanders The Commander's binocular came in several different guises. This paricular one is the early blc version with black rough finish. Later versions of the blc were of similar design to the green 7 x 50 described above. Different models were also used, including a version by Emil Busch and beh (E. Leitz Wetzlar). |

E. Leitz, Wetzlar 7 x 50 beh Kriegsmarine These Leitz models are partially rubber armoured and have a rough black coating. The eye cups have flip up rubbers for extra protection. These particular binocular were not as well made as their Zeiss counterparts, so were not as popular in use. |

Kriegsmarine Armbanduhr There were many different variations of the standard issued KM watch. Many shared the same movements of other designs. I already have many of these in my collection, but am looking for the following distributors: Vogele, Mitschele and possibly a Para. All are of a similar design to the Wagner that is pictured. If you have either of these in your collection, please get in touch (even if you do not want to sell). |

Hanhart KM Chronograph A popular myth is that this particular watch was worn by some of the more successful U-boot Commanders. However, the relatively fragile construction of this watch would have proved problematic onboard a cramped and bustling U-boot. It was designed as a piece of equipment and would have more than likely been used by the Artillery Units onboard the Large KM Warships, before the introduction of radar. It has a single button chronograph and has a rotating ribbed bezel. The 'KM' stamp on the dial and red outer scales help to distinguish this from other issued Hanharts at the time. It usually has a stamped Eagle and Swastika, 'M' and serial number on the reverse. |

I am constantly on the lookout for new stuff. Places like ebay are good, as it has Worldwide coverage and it is a good indication of the current value of some items. However, ebay only scratches the surface of what is out there and I believe that there are many treasures awaiting discovery in the most unlikely of places.
Cheers! |
